About the role
We’re looking for a Quality Engineer to join Halfords during an exciting period of growth. This is a great opportunity for someone ambitious and driven, who’s ready to build a long-term career with us.
In this role, you’ll play a key part in ensuring that all Halfords products are safe, legal, and fit for purpose. You’ll provide proactive, timely input into product development, product information, and manufacturing processes helping to ensure the highest standards of quality and compliance across our Cycling Parts, Accessories & Clothing range.
Working closely with our Buyers, HGS, and suppliers, you’ll help to develop, align, and implement quality assurance processes, policies, and documentation that meet both regulatory and Halfords’ own high standards.

Key responsibilities
- Product Evaluation & Compliance: Assess products to ensure they meet company standards, specifications, and all relevant legislation.
- Quality Assurance & Supplier Management: Implement QA processes, review product samples through all development stages, and evaluate suppliers for consistent quality performance.
- Continuous Improvement & Customer Insight: Analyse feedback, complaints, and returns to identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and drive ongoing quality improvements.
- Product Development & Packaging: Collaborate on product and packaging design, ensuring compliance with legal, sustainability, and brand requirements while enhancing functionality and reducing material use.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with global sourcing, supply chain, and brand teams to align on quality goals, product launches, and customer experience.
- Global Support & Travel: Support sourcing and development activities through UK, Europe, and Asia travel, ensuring timely product development and supplier engagement.
About you
- Practical experience in product development and product technical/quality assurance in a Retail Quality/Technical/Technologist buying support role of General Merchandise or Consumer Products, and some specialist product or in-depth knowledge or subject matter expertise.
- Experience working with a good level of autonomy
- Direct experience with Cycling Category products, chemicals, mechanical products, electronics or Electrical Engineering, or hardline products would be desirable
- A wider number of product Concept Group experience.
- Knowledge and experience of product manufacturing and the quality principles involved (ISO 9000).
- Understand Customer needs and the translation of these to develop products
- Experience of manufacturing technologies, product design or sourcing with extended supply chain, digital business and the application of quality management systems would be beneficial.

- Good communication and presentation skills
- Good commercial awareness and ability to work at-pace to deadlines.
- Ability to work cross functionally
- Good organisational skills and ability to work under pressure
