About the role

We are looking for an agile and strategic Performance & Talent Manager to play a pivotal role in empowering our leaders to build and sustain high-performing teams across Halfords. This is an exciting opportunity to shape and implement talent and performance strategies that drive business impact, enhance capability, and foster a culture of continuous development.

As Performance & Talent Manager, you will be instrumental in the management of the performance processes including objective setting, personal development planning, mid-year and annual reviews, making heavy use of your strong project management and internal communications skills. You will also spearhead talent reviews to build a high-performing, inclusive workforce by designing, implementing, and continually enhancing processes.

Key responsibilities

  • Managing the end-to-end talent and performance cycle from planning and communication to tracking and embedding it across the business.
  • Continuously refine performance and talent review processes to ensure they are inclusive, impactful, and aligned with our organisational goals.
  • Design and deliver learning materials, toolkits, and training that empower leaders and managers to excel in performance and talent conversations.
  • Collaborate closely with People Business Partners and Internal Communications to ensure clear, consistent messaging that keeps teams engaged and informed.
  • Develop and monitor KPIs to evaluate the effectiveness of talent and performance initiatives on engagement, diversity, development, and retention.
  • Ensure systems and processes work efficiently together, exploring innovative ways to support our people and improve operational effectiveness.
  • Stay ahead of market trends and best practices, bringing fresh ideas and thought leadership to shape Halfords’ talent strategy.
  • Lead the evolution of performance and talent review processes at Halfords by embedding digital solutions, establishing clear cycles of activity, and driving leadership ownership and accountability for the performance and development of their teams.

About you

  • Prior experience managing performance and/or talent review cycles.
  • A proactive mindset with the confidence and presence to influence multiple stakeholders effectively.
  • Experience working with talent management or performance systems such as Cornerstone, Workday or SuccessFactors.
  • A passion for developing people and building inclusive, high-performing cultures.
  • Strategic thinking with hands-on delivery mindset.
  • Experience designing, project managing and embedding people processes and tools.
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills in person and virtually.
  • Data-driven and analytical mindset to evaluating effectiveness of talent practices to interpret data and report on impact.
  • Knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion within talent processes.

  • We offer hybrid working in our Support Centre, you will be based at our Support Centre 2 days a week with an optional 3 days working from home. Occasional travel to some of our field sites will be required.

At Halfords, we operate a hybrid working policy this role would be required on site 2 days per week at our Support Centre in Redditch Worcestershire.
