About the role

As the Garages Infrastructure Manager, you’ll be at the forefront of shaping the future of garage operations by leading the optimisation of our Workforce Management (WFM) system, Dayforce. Reporting directly to the Labour Resource and Special Projects Manager and working closely with the Garages Agency and Deployment Manager, you'll drive forward the strategic goals of the Garages team. You ensure Dayforce is seamlessly maintained and evolves to meet the ever-changing demands of both our customers and the business.

This is no ordinary systems role – you’ll be the go-to expert for Dayforce, collaborating across departments including Operations, People, IT, Learning & Development, and Payroll. Your insights and leadership will ensure that system improvements don’t just sit in a silo, but are fully embedded into the business, enhancing workflows and boosting productivity across the estate. Plus, you'll play a vital role in strategic projects extending into other revenue streams such as Mobile and Commercial.

Key responsibilities

  • Reporting directly to the Labour Resource and Special Projects Manager, oversee the deployment and weekly adherence monitoring of the Dayforce system across the Estate.
  • Collaborate with Divisional Directors, Regional General Managers, and Regional Champions to ensure labour deployment is accurate, aligned with weekly business capacity needs, and meets operational expectations.
  • Manage and maintain labour budgets across the Estate, ensuring deployment stays within annual targets while maximising efficiency.
  • Improve online and in-garage colleague availability by optimising online services and using PACE to flag and address areas for operational improvement.
  • Deliver Dayforce and PACE training across the business, keeping modules current and relevant in partnership with the L&D team, and supporting Dayforce Champions as needed.
  • Work closely with the People Team to ensure system changes positively impact labour turnover (LTO) and support employee experience.
  • Liaise with IT and legal teams to implement compliant, system-wide changes and ensure seamless enhancements and reporting capabilities.
  • Support key strategic initiatives, including Fusion, by driving Dayforce development and leveraging PowerBI for accurate labour spend tracking and reporting.
  • Develop and maintain an annual Deployment Calendar, ensuring all critical operational needs—such as agency support, peak planning, and training—are addressed.
  • Partner with the Labour, Resource and Special Projects Manager to propose and lead changes to the Garages Operating Model, covering contracts, work patterns, roles, skills, break management, and peak resource planning.

About you

  • You’re an experienced operations professional with a background in Garage Services and/or Retail, bringing hands-on knowledge of how to drive performance in a fast-paced environment.
  • You have experience in Workforce Management (WFM) and capacity planning, with essential working knowledge of Dayforce.
  • You're confident in sharing actionable business insights and change management strategies with key stakeholders, while supporting field teams through data-led performance improvement plans.
  • You’re comfortable managing multiple change projects at once, with the ability to keep stakeholders informed and aligned throughout.
  • You understand Garage modelling and aren’t afraid to challenge decisions, when necessary, always with a focus on efficiency.
  • You have excellent communication and training delivery skills, are confident using Excel, and are flexible to travel weekly to the Support Centre, offsite locations, and work from home when needed.

Reward & benefits

  • A fair and competitive salary evaluated against market data, car allowance, annual discretionary bonus scheme, pension, life assurance, 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays and enhanced family leave.
  • Commitment and dedication to your ongoing personal and professional development. We help you to own and grow your potential so you can be at your best in your current role and to support your future career aspirations.
  • You will have access to a wealth of employee discounts across the Halfords suite of products and services.
  • Wellbeing and inclusion are at the heart of our colleague experience. We offer resources and ongoing support to enhance your wellbeing at work and active Colleague Networks supporting inclusion initiatives across Halfords.

Not sure you meet all the criteria? We'd encourage you to take the wheel and apply anyway! At Halfords we are committed to creating an inclusive workplace for our colleagues. We're an equal opportunities employer and proud to welcome applications from all backgrounds and embrace diversity within our one Halfords Family.
