About Us

Halfords is a £1.7bn revenue listed business and the UK’s leading provider of motoring and cycling products and services. With a national footprint across retail, garages, mobile services, digital and B2B, we support customers across the full lifecycle of their motoring and cycling needs. We are proud to keep the nation moving as trusted experts who love to help.

We are evolving into a truly omnichannel, service-led organisation, with over half of our revenue now driven through services. This transformation is focused on delivering more integrated, seamless customer experiences while driving operational performance and sustainable growth.

Technology at Halfords

Technology at Halfords is being reimagined as we continue our evolution into a truly omnichannel, service-led business. We are reshaping how technology supports and enables growth, moving towards more connected platforms, simpler architectures and a more integrated, scalable operating model. This is about creating a technology ecosystem that can support the full breadth of our business across retail, garages, digital and B2B, while improving resilience, pace of delivery and customer experience. This is a significant and meaningful shift. It requires strong leadership, clear prioritisation and the ability to deliver in a complex, evolving environment.

While the vision is ambitious, our approach is grounded. We are focused on making practical, high-impact improvements that strengthen our core capabilities and enable the business to move forward with confidence.

Information Security is fundamental to that ambition.

About the Role

This is a critical, hands-on leadership role focused on strengthening our information security capability as part of this wider technology evolution.

Reporting to the CTO, the Head of Information Security will take ownership of delivering a defined security roadmap, driving tangible improvements in our security posture within a complex, real-world environment.

This is not a pure strategy role. The direction is clear and supported. The priority is execution.

You will work at the centre of our technology landscape, improving core security capabilities, taking control of key services and ensuring security is embedded into how we build and operate.

You will be expected to operate with pace, make clear decisions and lead effectively during incidents, bringing structure and control when it matters most.

This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful, visible impact on how security operates across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and deliver the information security roadmap
  • Strengthen network security, segmentation, endpoint, cloud and application security
  • Lead security operations and incident response
  • Manage outsourced SOC and security partners
  • Embed security into delivery across technology and product teams
  • Improve business continuity and disaster recovery
  • Establish and enforce security standards and controls
  • Provide clear, commercially grounded risk insight
  • Lead effectively during security incidents

About You

You are a hands-on, technically credible security leader who is comfortable working in environments that require improvement.

You bring:

  • Strong technical depth across security domains
  • Proven experience improving security in complex environments
  • Ability to get into detail and drive outcomes
  • Experience handling real security incidents
  • Pragmatic and commercial mindset
  • Confidence to challenge without being obstructive

This role is unlikely to suit individuals from highly regulated environments used to rigid controls or heavy resource models.

Reward and Benefits

  • Competitive salary plus car allowance and discretionary bonus
  • Pension, life assurance, 30 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Ongoing development and career progression
  • Hybrid working (3 days on site, 2 from home)
  • Colleague discounts across Halfords products and services
  • Wellbeing support and colleague networks

Diversity & Inclusion

At Halfords, we are committed to creating an inclusive workplace for our colleagues. We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all backgrounds, embracing diversity within our one Halfords family.

We operate a hybrid working policy with 3 days on site at our Support Centre in Redditch, Worcestershire.
