The role

As a Finance Assistant, you take pride in building and maintaining key relationships with suppliers, ensuring invoices are processed and paid on time, and using your strong attention to detail to keep records clean and up to date.

You are highly organised and have an inquisitive nature, keen to suggest and work with your colleagues to implement process improvements to increase efficiency, while ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies.

As a Finance Assistant at Halfords, you will be part of a dynamic team of approximately six people, responsible for ensuring that an assigned group of suppliers are paid correctly, on time, and in full. This ensures that goods or services supplied to Halfords are not disrupted and that the appropriate financial records reflect all associated transactions correctly. You will also provide administrative support to the Finance and Property Teams to effectively serve the customers of the Halfords Group.

Key responsibilities

  • Raising purchase orders and goods receipting of invoices requesting payment against correct purchase orders.
  • High-volume purchase invoice processing.
  • Resolving all queries arising from activities on the assigned portion of the Accounts Payable ledger, involving research and liaison with both suppliers and colleagues throughout Halfords' retail business via email, phone, and face-to-face interactions.
  • Auditing Personal Expense Claims and Procurement Card Transactions to ensure adherence to Company Policy.
  • Processing payments to suppliers and landlords.
  • Assisting with month-end and KPI reporting.
  • Maintaining rent payment schedules accurately, making amendments following instructions from the Property Team, and processing service charges and insurance-related payments.
  • Responding to property arrears queries and advising the Property Team on legitimate arrears or working to recover overpayments.
  • Supporting the assigned Team Manager with Continuous Improvement activities as required.

 

About you

  • Strong team skills and a willingness to support other team members.
  • Proficiency in Excel and Word;
  • Accuracy and speed in processing documentation, primarily invoices.
  • Experience with SAP and/or Accounts Payable is advantageous.
  • Ability to work to deadlines.
  • Comfortable working in a friendly and fast paced environment.
  • Commitment to participating in the drive for both process and service improvement.
