About the role
We're looking for a passionate and strategic individual to join us as Workforce Capability Manager on a 12-month fixed-term contract. In this role, you’ll lead the development and delivery of our workforce capability plan and frameworks—helping us proactively build the skills and capabilities our people need now and in the future. Aligned to our broader business strategy, your work will drive the professional growth of our colleagues across the Halfords family.
Success in this role hinges on strong stakeholder engagement and collaboration. You’ll work closely with People Business Partners and key business leaders to identify capability gaps, shape development strategies, and ensure initiatives are aligned, relevant, and impactful. Key responsibilities
Design and lead a capability strategy aligned to departmental and business objectives.
Manage the implementation of capability frameworks, including competency standards and assessment protocols.
Oversee processes to embed workforce capability initiatives across the business.
Explore and apply industry best practices and digital solutions to enhance training and workforce planning.
Collaborate with the People partnering teams to develop medium- and long-term workforce plans aligned to business strategy.
Lead integrated workforce planning, including headcount analysis and cost-related insights for decision-making.
Work with training teams to deliver targeted learning and development initiatives.
Develop clear career pathways to support colleague progression and capability growth.
Monitor and report on the impact and effectiveness of capability initiatives.
About you
Experienced in People Development and Workforce Capability, with a passion for helping individuals and teams grow.
A confident communicator who’s comfortable presenting to groups and building strong relationships across all levels.
Proficient in Microsoft Office tools—especially Teams, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint—to support clear, professional communication and reporting.
Commercially aware with a sharp eye for detail, able to spot issues and provide timely, practical solutions.
Positive, adaptable, and self-motivated—able to thrive both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Willing and able to travel occasionally, with a clean UK driving licence.

We offer hybrid working in our Support Centre, you will be based at our Support Centre 3 days a week with an optional 2 days working from home.
