An an Enterprise Architect you'll drive value for money through analyzing the business strategy and intended goals, and defining the business, information, application and technology architectures to deliver the required outcomes.

You'll also:

  • Creates and maintains the Target Architecture for area of responsibility and within scope of the defined enterprise
  • Acts as an ambassador of the Target Architecture both across Technology and the business
  • To establish and maintain a high level of business engagement; to ensure delivery and co-operation between Technology, end users and business management

Key Responsibilities


  • Responsible for prioritising and managing own workload, and others as required
  • Developing and maintaining the Target Architecture which is aligned to the business and Technology Strategy
    • Recognising innovative use of technology
    • Creating the roadmap to articulate steps required to achieve desired state as outlined in the Target Architecture
    • Works with other Technology And Business stakeholders to drive the development and adoption of the Target Architecture

Financial Responsibilities:

  • Supports the development and qualification of the investment plan
  • Supports the budget development process for specific initiatives to maximise the longer-term business case

Operational Responsibilities

  • Identifying and recommending the alignment of cross domain initiatives
  • Be the recognised architecture expert and have overall accountability for the following in area of expertise:
    • Ensure integrity of the Target Architecture, by making sure all of the various components are integrated and reconciling any conflicting concerns of different stakeholders
    • Developing policies, standards and guidelines that direct the selection, development, implementation and use of technology across the company
    • Developing the architecture principles and standards for area of expertise
      • Ensure the standards and Roadmap are understood within Technology and across the Business Units
      • Drive the adoption of the standards through supporting the Solution Architects
      • Define the tool set to be used by the Architecture team and related areas
    • Responsible for ensuring adherence to the target architecture through supporting (as required) design / architecture authorities
      • Manages exceptions to the target architecture
    • Identifying the Technology and Business risks in architectural decisions and roadmaps
    • Ensuring that investments are made which best support the commercial requirements of the organisation
    • Working with external suppliers to ensure that the appropriate technology direction is aligned with Target Architecture
    • Ability to design security policies, define principles, security controls and measures and design to prevent security threats, mitigate security risks and vulnerabilities
    • Proficient in preparing and reviewing technical solution designs, ability to closely collaborate with system engineers ensuring solutions are developed to expectations and best practice
  • Keep abreast with developments in the Technology industry to ensure that the architectures are kept in line with industry standard and only deviate for commercial benefit.  Co-ordinate the identification and assessment of new and emerging technologies and promote awareness among staff and business.
  • Be recognised for depth and breadth of industry to provide guidance to solution architects on projects


  • Communicates the Target Architecture and Roadmap 
  • Develops and maintains stakeholder engagement maps

Leadership and People Management (or Teamwork)

  • Develops, coaches, motivates, energises and inspires fellow team members
  • Participates in and contributes to industry, supplier and peer forums to influence the development of initiatives that are innovative and deliver value to the enterprise

In addition to the above, Senior Enterprise Architects are expected to:

  • Manage and develop staff to improve business performance and build staff potential
  • Provide a leadership role to design and development standards; promoting best practice across Technology
  • Oversee the quality and appropriateness of the work performed to ensure it delivers measurable Business benefits
  • Use depth and breadth of industry knowledge to co-ordinate the identification and assessment of new and emerging technologies and promote awareness among staff and business management to enhance the solution architecture

Key Skills/Experience

A proven track record in a business aware Senior Technology architecture role, with experience of working in a FTSE 250 business.
Experience of developing and implementing integration platforms and architectures in a dynamic environment.

  • Excellent business acumen, ideally with several industry verticals, perhaps with a Retail bias
