Halfords are looking to recruit a passionate and ambitious SEO Technical Executive to support the Group SEO Manager in continually improving the efficiency of the website. The successful candidate will support us in our journey to support a lifetime of cycling and motoring and join as part of our innovative digital team.

This person will be highly analytical and have a solid understanding of common technical SEO issues such as indexing and crawling.

Your need to be able to work cross functionally with the Marketing, Media team, Category teams & marketing agencies to support the delivery of the SEO tactics while supporting the strategic marketing objectives and category plans. 

NB - We are open to working remotely for this position - all locations will be considered. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform regular site crawls and technical audits using DeepCrawl, SiteBulb & Screaming Frog
  • Support in the development of technical SEO tickets into product sprints using Jira
  • Resolve hygiene technical SEO optimisations through product teams and the CMS (Salesforce)
  • Share technical findings with relevant teams and provide clear standard operating procedures where needed to improve site efficiency
  • Produce regular and ad-hoc technical reports on key landing pages across the site and report on key metrics to show performance improvements
  • Carry out technical competitor gap analysis to gain insights on performance and opportunities for IA changes and UX amends
  • Work closely with UX to prepare and ensure are best in class across Web Vital metrics
  • Support the technical SEO roadmap & liaise with the SEO agency to continually make improvements
  • Support product teams by advising on technical SEO issues, product sprints and new releases to ensure common SEO bugs are not present
  • Keep up to date with technical best practice, Google algorithms and latest Google quality guidelines and feed this into marketing and digital teams
  • Work closely with content, PR & digital to ensure that as new campaigns are launched all technical elements are best in class
  • Conduct keyword research to identify new opportunities to support the growth of the Halfords organic profile
  • Monitor ranking performance across landing pages within Google to ensure we can make continuous improvements to organic traffic
  • Be familiar with searcher intent and keyword research to support other teams in ensuring we are developing the correct content and pages relevant to our customer base

Key Skills/Experience

  • You have previous technical SEO experience within an agency or in-house role
  • You can understand why technical SEO needs to be at the heart of a website
  • Experience in showing the clear ROI of implementing technical SEO elements where possible
  • You excel in identifying technical bugs and optimisations
  • You have an analytical background and can spot data patterns
  • Experience in HTML, CSS & basic JavaScript to help bug any on-site issues and provide clear recommendations for fixes
  • You are comfortable and keen to share the latest technical SEO best practices with team members and stakeholders
  • Experience in using Ahrefs, Screaming Frog, SiteBulb, DeepCrawl, Google Search Console,  Google Analytics and Google Data Studio
  • You understand the importance of crawl budgets and indexability issues and can understand how Googlebot is behaving across websites.
  • Be a keen team player – with the ability to work cross functionally within a business
  • Strong communication skills

This role will require you to work cross functionally with Marketing, Digital, Trading and the Digital Agencies. You will be accountable for providing a sound and supported view of SEO across all of these teams whilst ensuring are making continual improvements in line with recommendations and insights provided.
